After a few amazing hours in Cathay Pacific's new First Class Lounge (The Pier) we made our way down to the gate for our quick hop to Bangkok.  A bus gate meant an awesome ride across the tarmac to our waiting A330 - so many planes to check out!  We boarded and waited for a large tour group to arrive.  And waited.  And then it started to pour.  We ended up sitting on the tarmac for about an hour before we finally got going.  Not a huge deal - it just made a long travel day even longer.

We arrived in Bangkok around 10:30 PM local time.  We cleared immigration in about 5 minutes thanks to fast track passes and our bags were waiting on the carousel when we arrived.  I hit the ATM and were quickly in a cab heading towards Bangkok.  Our nearly 40 minute (thanks to Bangkok traffic) ride cost less than $13 USD.  Pretty amazing.

Emily and I stayed at the Le Meridien in late 2012 so I was eager to check it out again.  We arrived to a nearly deserted lobby and we were promptly checked in and handed keys.  Our "executive" room was perfect for our quick stay in Bangkok.

Happy birthday!

Welcome back!

We were celebrating Jonathan's 30th birthday and the property was kind enough to send up an amenity for him.  There was also a note welcoming me back to the property.

The room contained a couple of "twin" beds, (more like full size beds in the US) a desk, sitting area next to the window, dual closets, and a nice sized bathroom.

We enjoyed the amazing buffet breakfast at the hotel's restaurant (Latest Recipe) both mornings.  While buffet breakfasts in Asia are typically amazing, this one ranks in my top three along with the St. Regis Bali and The Four Seasons Bali.

We also enjoyed cocktails and snacks at Bamboo Chic - the hotel's second floor bar.  Our executive room package included the breakfast and the happy hour and we each enjoyed a few cocktails before we headed out to see Bangkok at night.

Bangkok is an amazing hotel city given the affordability of luxury hotels.  You can often find the Le Meridien for <$125USD/night.  I'd like to check out another property during my next trip but I'd highly recommend this hotel if you are a SPG fan or just want an affordable luxury hotel with great service.

We spent our last morning in Bangkok walking around the city - checking out the Golden Mount and Chinatown.  We packed up and headed to the airport.  Bound for a massage in the lounge and then a few hours in the nose of a 747 on our way back to Hong Kong!
