Arriving at the first class check-in facility in Singapore is pretty awesome. The cab pulls in and instantly there are multiple people surrounding you. Opening doors, grabbing bags, confirming that you obtained everything from the cab, and then escorting you into the beautifully appointed facility.

We were shown to one of the check-in desks where we both sat down and handed over our passports. Bags were tagged and boarding passes were issued in a matter of minutes. Next came the "golden tickets" which would provide Private Room access. I've reviewed The Private Room a couple of times before - our first First Class experience as well as our Suite trip to Bali. Feel free to check those reviews out if you're looking for more details.
While I believe this is one of the best lounges in the world, it's not in my top three (Lufthansa First Class Terminal, Thai Airways First Class Lounge, Cathay Pacific The Wing). The lounge is extremely private almost to a fault. The food and drinks and excellent but that's where it ends. There's no above and beyond ground service or amazing showers or a spa. While that's a silly thing to write, ultimately this is a premium travel blog and the point is to compare the best airlines in the world. Now back to the review...
Everyone wished us a pleasant journey and we snapped a few pictures of the beautifully appointed room before heading into the terminal. First order of business was a GST refund. I think it worked out to around $8 USD but it was fun using the kiosk again.
$8! |
Right next to the kiosk was a giant line of people waiting to have their picture taken on the giant Star Wars X-Wing fighter. This was like selfie stick heaven and pure entertainment while we waited in line to obtain our $8.
We headed over to the premium immigration line where there was once again, no line. We were both through in a matter of minutes and we made sure to grab a mint on the way into the airside terminal. Love this airport.

We headed up the escalators to the business class lounge where we handed off our golden tickets. I do wish they would let you keep them.

They would make pretty awesome souvenirs. We were escorted through the lounge into the first class lounge (which seemed to have been remodeled since our last visit) and finally to The Private Room. Here are some pics of the lounge.

We were ready for lunch so headed straight towards the restaurant where we were the only guests (a recurring theme if you haven't caught on).

We both stared with a beautifully presented cappuccino and Champagne. They were serving Piper Heidsieck 2002 Rare which was excellent.

After a great meal, we set out for a walk and to check out a bit more of the Changi Airport.
Final Thoughts:
We've now visited The Private Room three times and each experience has been excellent. The dining room is definitely the high point and I would certainly go out of my way to arrive a bit early to enjoy a great meal along with some time shopping/walking around Changi. If Singapore stepped up the ground game a bit (lounge escort, spa service, etc...) they could put this lounge experience in my personal top 3.
