We took the 9AM shuttle from the Sheraton JFK to the JFK airport arriving at Terminal 1 around 9:15 for our 12:05PM departure.

JFK Terminal 1
Check-in desks were right in front of us as we entered the terminal. There was a bit of confusion after we asked to check our bags to Istanbul vs. our final destination of Male but that was cleared up in a few minutes after speaking with a supervisor.  Boarding passes in hand, we waited in the security line given the lack of pre-check on international airlines (although that is about to change).

We were through security a little after 10 so we had an hour plus in the lounge to catch up on work and fully charge all of our devices.  The Lufthansa lounge is located immediately to the left as you exit security in Terminal 1.  We could have checked out other lounges (i.e. Air France) with our Priority Passes but the Lufthansa lounge was close to the gate, well appointed, and not busy so we decided to hang out for the duration.

We were welcomed upon entering the first floor of the lounge.  The upper floors house the Senator (for Lufthansa elites) lounge as well as the first class lounge.  Boarding passes were scanned and we were notified that boarding announcements would be made.

Lounge seating
We found seats in the far end of the lounge after checking out the breakfast spread (if you can even call it that) which consisted of pastries, fruit, and some olives.

Trying to find something to eat
The lounge is bright with floor to ceiling windows and great views of the tarmac.  We were lucky enough to be sitting down when our ride to Istanbul pulled into the gate.  The time in the lounge flew by and we were soon being asked to head to the gate for boarding.

Our ride to Istanbul
While I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this lounge, it was perfectly serviceable.  I imagine the  lower level gets very crowded during the evening bank of departures on Austrian, Turkish, Lufthansa, and EVA.

Next up:  our flight to Istanbul in Turkish Airlines business class.
