Singapore Airlines A380 Suites Class Frankfurt to JFK

Wow I have really been neglecting the blog.  Between a busy work schedule and another week out of the country, I haven't been able to finish this series - my apologies.

After an overnight at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport, we woke up around 5:30 AM and headed downstairs to the terminal.  We had scoped out the terminal the night before so we knew exactly where we were going.  Within five minutes we were checking in at the Singapore Airlines desk.

FRA Departure Board

Our seats (3C/3D) were confirmed and we were invited to use either the Lufthansa Senator Lounge or the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.  I had read that the Air Canada lounge was great so we made our way through security/passport control (done right in the EU vs. the US) to the lounge which is one level up from the main level.

Yep...I'll have a beer at 6:30 AM.

The lounge was very nice.  Great tarmac views, food spread, staff, seating, etc...the lounge wasn't crowded and there were plenty of accessible power outlets.

A little before 8, we left the lounge for the gate and our 8:40 departure to JFK.  On the way, we spotted this beauty.  At the time (Vietnam Airlines has joined the club) Qatar was the only airline flying the A350.  Absolutely stunning aircraft.

Qatar A350 bound for Doha

We hangout for a bit and snapped some pictures along with about a dozen other airplane enthusiasts avgeeks.  Emily spotted The Points Guy who was taking pictures of the A350 and I figured he would be on our plane (he was) as he lives in NYC.  The day was off to a great start!  You can read his review of the flight and compare.

Boarding commenced and we were warmly welcomed by the crew.  This A380 contained the "refreshed" first class cabin - darker quilted leather on the seat which we think looked even better than the old cabin (if that's possible).

Upgraded seat - quilted leather is so hot right now

It would just be the two of us, The Points Guy, and one operational upgrade from business class.  Just 4 passengers in a cabin with 12 seats!

Time to fly

We introduced ourselves to Brian (The Points Guy) and chatted about points and miles for a bit.  He's obviously been at this for awhile and built a great business around miles and points.  This was our  second flight on Singapore Suites, his first which we all thought was somewhat funny.

Goodies (slippers, eye masks, amenity kits, and pajamas) were handed out and Champagne was offered.  We opted for the Krug and Brian for the Dom.  Good - more Krug for us.

We pushed back on time and lumbered out to the runway.  Once in the air, the great crew kept the Krug flowing.  We had pre-ordered meals (Lobster Thermidor for me) which were confirmed and the flight attendants working the cabin began setting up for meal service.

Singapore Airlines does a phenomenal job with the entire meal service.  From setup to caviar to the "Book the Cook" program - all of our first class meals have been fantastic.  Because this is a day flight with "brunch" Singapore does not do caviar service.  Oh well.

I'll let the pictures of the meal speak for themselves.

Once our tables were cleared, we asked for our "double bed" to be made,  We were about 2.5 hours into the 8 hour flight and we wanted to relax and try to get some rest.  The double bed is one of the coolest flight experiences I've had thus far.  The doors to the suite shut making the bed feel very private and spacious.

Turndown

Goodnight!

We each watched some tv on our separate screens, donned our eye masks, and slept for a few hours.  I was still full from brunch so opted not to eat anything prior to landing.  Our bedroom was transformed back into a pair of seats and we each sipped our cappuccinos as we made our way into NYC.

There are only a handful of accessible first class award possibilities between the US and Europe.  Singapore's flight to Frankfurt is among the cheapest (miles wise) at 57,375 KrisFlyer miles.  Those mils can be easily attained from one credit card signup bonus (Chase Sapphire, American Express Gold, American Express Platinum, Citi Prestige, Citi, ThankYou) and then transferred to Singapore's KrisFlyer program.

Singapore Airlines A380

What a great way to end our trip.  We landed at JFK on time and thanks to Global Entry, we were on our way to LaGuardia to catch our flight home to Denver within 30 minutes.  We both love Singapore Airlines and can't wait to fly them again!
